We don’t often thank Auckland Transport for spending our rates in vast quantities, but their latest safety video is good: over 27,000 intersection crashes involving over 7,000 injuries – big numbers. Most happen in commuter rush hours of course (that’s most of the time in Auckland) and 30% are caused by restricted or learner drivers. Watch those pesky traffic lights, they’re not just for the other guy, or you’ll pay the price – $150 instant fine and 20 demerit points – and if you’re really unlucky, you’ll be calling Crash Management’s emergency line too.
